Western Illinois University recently hosted its first-ever Bassoon Extravaganza! Bassoonists of all ages came to work with Western Illinois University bassoon professors and learn from each other. Galesburg was one of the invited schools, and two seventh-grade bassoonists, Carson Stecher and Jordan Courter, participated in this event, along with GHS English teacher Brie Hankes. They all received themed shirts, cookies, and other goodies. The evening concluded with a performance in concert with the WIU Concert Band (which includes GHS alumni Brandon Hayford). Carson and Jordan were the youngest bassoonists to participate in the event. We are incredibly proud of them! #StreaksNation

Local artist and Carl Sandburg College adjunct professor Nikki Ponce recently returned to Galesburg High School to work with students in Drawing 1. Students were challenged to try both blind (not looking at the paper) contour line drawings and blind continuous (not lifting the marker from the paper) contour line drawings of each other and themselves. #StreaksNation
