Nicholas Young was hired at the June 3, 2021 Board of Education meeting to fill the open position for a principal at Churchill Junior high School. Mr. Young has been with the school district for 14 years and most recently served as the Principal at Lombard Middle School.
“Mr. Young has spent the vast majority of his career working with students and staff in the middle grades and he brings a wealth of experience to a building that will be experiencing a transition in the near future. We are excited that someone of Nick’s character and work ethic will be leading the staff and students toward a new beginning when we move the 7th and 8th-grade students to the GHS building as it transitions to a 7-12 facility at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year,” according to Dr. John Asplund, Superintendent of CUSD #205.
Mr. Young graduated from Knox College with a B.A. in Educational Studies. He then attended St. Ambrose University and received his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
Mr. Young is a lifelong resident of Galesburg attending Churchill as a student while also starting his teaching career at Churchill in 2007. Following 4 years of teaching Life Science and 3 years as the Dean of Students at Churchill, Mr. Young was hired at Lombard as the Assistant Principal and for the last 3 years as Principal.
According to Mr. Young, “I’m excited about my return to Churchill and the opportunity to work with many former students and staff and the opportunity to meet many new students and staff. This is certainly an important year as we continue to grow academically following the COVID Pandemic and certainly as we close out the Churchill legacy at 905 Maple Ave. and build towards a new future at the 7-12 complex.”
Mr. Young lives in Galesburg with his wife Sara, and 3 children Mackenzie, Hayden, and Alyssa--all of whom will be at Galesburg High School next year.
